Bellarine Peninsula Railway - Steam Train
The Bellarine Railway is operated and maintained by the dedicated volunteers of the Geelong Steam Preservation Society, a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1970. Recognised as the oldest Victorian branch line still in operation, the railway provides a great, fun-filled day out for people of all ages.
Regular scenic trips along Swan Bay and across the Bellarine, operate on selected days throughout the year and additional days during the school holidays. A dedicated rail trail allows passengers to cycle or walk one way and travel the other as a passenger on-board the train. Bikes are carried free and group bookings are advised. Private Carriage Hire is available whenever the regular service is running and offers the benefits of a private charter without the cost.
Special family events are held, such as Day Out With Thomas, Easter Bunny and Santa Trains.
The Driver Experience Program gives a unique opportunity to fulfil a childhood dream or celebrate a special milestone of driving a steam locomotive. No previous experience is required and participants may invite family and friends to join them as their passengers.
